LG Electronics signed
a 2-year sponsorship agreement with Australian national
soccer team in August 1999 enhancing LG Electronics's
standing in Australia. Australians gave the national
team the affectionate nickname "LG Socceroo"
(Soccer + kangaroo). The nickname has become very
popular with even the foreign press now using the
name in their news articles.
